Jackson, Tenn. - Over 75% of students who are seen in college
counseling centers suffer from stress-related problems. This is according
to Dr. Margaret Lillard, Director of Counseling Services at Union
University.
According to Lillard, college students today are subject to increasing
pressures from many sources.
"While students are being told that these should be the 'best
years of their life', to many it seems that life is feeling more and more
like a pressure cooker," said Lillard.
Lillard offers these helpful tips to students for dealing with
stressful situations:
- Manage your time better; make sure to get up a little earlier so you
avoid feeling rushed.
- Plan and prioritize what needs to be done; break big jobs down into
smaller segments and combine similar tasks.
- Return phone calls at one time and cut down on interruptions where
possible.
- Do your most difficult work when you are freshest and most
energized.
- Most important, make time in your day for self-care; eat healthy,
exercise and get adequate sleep.
51ÉçÇø Counseling Services will offer a group presentation on
stress management for students during the month of March. For more
