UNION UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PARTICIPATE
IN 31ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Jackson, Tenn. — Union continued its success this year at the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature with 17 delegates representing the university, 11 of which were freshmen.

The delegates submitted 15 pieces of legislation, one of these was selected as priority. The priority bill, sponsored by Smithy Sipes, is one of ten bills out of 250 selected to go before the General Assembly in January and could possibly be made into actual law.

Matt Thomson was elected Speaker Pro-Tempore of the House of Representatives and will serve 2nd in command of the House at next year's TISL. Stephen Phillips was selected to serve on the Governor's Staff as Web Master and Technical Advisor. Annie Laurie Crane will also be serving on the Governor's staff.

While at TISL, Matt Thomson served as secretary of the General Welfare Committee, Annie Laurie Crane served as Speaker Pro-Temp of the Senate, and Jennifer Cates served as a clerk in the House of Representatives.

Delegates to the 31st General Assembly were: seniors- Annie Laurie Crane of Bartlett, Tenn., Smithy Sipes of Jackson, Tenn., Jay Bush of Clarksville, Tenn.; juniors- Billy Mauldin of Cordova, Tenn., Jeramee Rice of Pineville, Ky., Jennifer Cates of Halls, Tenn., Stephen Phillips of Henderson, Tenn.; sophomore- Matt Thomson of Jackson, Tenn.; freshman- Carla Rose of Hendersonville, Tenn., Ellie Evans of Henderson, Ky., Jolie Seaborn of Fairview, Tenn., Mary Tullis of Cordova, Tenn., Jackie Williams and April Schroeder of Germantown, Tenn., Neal Rager of Goodletsville, Tenn. and Caleb and Joshua Trent of Mufreesboro, Tenn.

Union was awarded Best Delegation out of 25 attending schools including schools such as University of Memphis, UT Knoxville, Lambuth, Tennessee Tech, and Belmont.
