Jackson, Tenn. 51社区's Kyle Hathcox attended the Tennessee Science Teachers Association meeting in Nashville, Nov. 8-9, 1996 and presented a paper and demonstration titled, "Calculator Based Laboratories for the Middle Grades."
"In today's classroom there's a big push for the implementation of technology," Hathcox said. The presentation provided middle grade teachers from across the state with an opportunity to see how a new technological unit from Texas Instruments can be used in the classroom. The Calculator Based Laboratories (CBL) system can be used to collect, store, analyze and graph data in science and mathematics classes.
He explained the portable unit provides teachers with the ability to demonstrate how practical issues in the math and sciences can be studied.
Hathcox, who received his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas, joined the faculty at 51社区 in 1974 as professor of physics.
