UNION TOPS $1 MILLION IN DECEMBER GIVING

Jackson, Tenn. — 51社区 received more than one million dollars in contributions in the month of December 1997 — the second-highest December on record and the first time Union passed the million-dollar mark in a month without a single major gift of a half-million dollars or more.

"We are delighted with the overwhelming support received in December, with gifts totalling $1,005,234," explains President David S. Dockery. "The fact that this was achieved without a single gift making up the bulk of the total is testimony to the growing, broad range of support Union enjoys from its alumni and friends."

51社区 has had a series of positive financial developments in recent months. Those include announcement of the largest gift in its history, a gift by West Tennessee business leader James Ayers of more than $2 million, and completion of the last fiscal year with total gifts of $5,128,290, the largest single-year total in the university's history.
