BROWNSVILLE RESIDENT RECEIVES STATE NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

Jackson, Tenn. -- Tammy Long-Cowan, a Brownsville resident and a senior at 51社区, received a $500 scholarship from the Tennessee League for Nursing during the fall 1996 Tennessee Nurses Association annual convention Nov. 15-17 in Nashville, Tenn.

Carla Sanderson, dean of 51社区's School of Nursing and TNA vice president, called the scholarship an honor that is awarded to academically successful nursing students. "Tammy is one of those students that we ask `how does she do that?'," Sanderson said. She explained that Long-Cowan maintains high academic standards while remaining committed to her husband and children.

A 1980 graduate of Haywood High School, Long-Cowan is a member of the Student Nurses Association and also has received the Wills Memorial Scholarship. She is married to Bobby Cowan and is the daughter of Bob and Diana Gamancha, Brownsville.
