Colene Trent
Professor of Economics
Director of Events, McAfee School of Business
Biography
Dr. Colene Trent is an Associate Professor of Economics. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a double major in Finance and Economics as well as her Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance from the University of North Alabama. While obtaining her MBA, she worked at Edward Jones Investments and founded a non-profit organization, Community Youth League, which enabled her to organize community service projects in area schools. She was influenced by her parents to obtain a business degree, but she fell in love with the discipline of Economics after taking her first course in Principles of Microeconomics. Because of her love for public speaking which was cultivated through her involvement in the Miss America Scholarship Organization and her experiences with tutoring other students as an undergrad, Dr. Trent listened to the recommendations of her undergraduate professors and decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics. She graduated with her doctoral degree from the University of Mississippi where her research focused on econometrics and labor economics. At Union, she loves teaching Principles of Microeconomics, Managerial Economics, and International Economics, but her favorite subject to teach is Personal Financial Management. In part because of her own personal testimony, Dr. Trent feels that it is a unique gift to be able to teach financial stewardship to Union鈥檚 students. When she isn鈥檛 teaching, she loves volunteering and mentoring through the Miss America Organization as the Executive Director for Miss Tennessee. Her perfect day off would, of course, be spent with her husband, David, who is a worship leader at Englewood鈥檚 North Campus and her adorable son, Paxton, who she describes as her greatest blessing.
