Seth Reid ('18)

Seth Reid ('18)

Graduate Student, Washington University Law School, St. Louis

Seth Reid, a 2018 graduate, said Union shaped the way he thinks and communicates to set him up well for law school.

鈥淯nion really struck me with the way that they were Christ-centered and academically rigorous,鈥 Reid said. 鈥淓ach part of that was reinforcing the other.鈥

Originally from Tampa, Florida, Reid said many of the schools he looked at emphasized one or the other, but Union was the only one that did both well.

Reid studied history at Union and was heavily involved in the honors program. He said the history department taught him to appreciate the humanities element of history, something that informs his work as he studies law at Washington University Law School in St. Louis.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not just about finding accuracy, but it鈥檚 also about beautifully portraying the past,鈥 Reid said.

He said both history and honors taught him about truth, faith and beauty, but the most important thing they taught him was to read and think charitably.

鈥淲e have to know what we believe so we can hear from other people and understand their perspective,鈥 Reid said. 鈥淯nion taught me to empathize with people, even if I disagree with them.鈥

While at Union, Reid said he loved the campus community, and he was part of the Union club ultimate team and the Student Government Association. He said the relationships he formed with his roommates, classmates and professors shaped him as much as his education.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 the question you have to ask,鈥 Reid said. 鈥淲ho do you want to be shaped by?鈥
